Environmental and Science Projects

Developing monitoring survey processes and citizen science: We aim to find out the size of South Georgia's extensive wildlife populations, especially in the wake of our successful rodent eradication. Our goal is to understand the effects of unprecedented factors such as climate change and HPAl Avian flu on birds, seals and whales.

We support this cutting-edge international Southern Ocean project in partnership with British Antarctic Survey which measures seasonal foraging intensity and seeks to understand the resilience of returning whales and their preferred diet of krill.

This project creates a sustainable framework to monitor multi-season whale occurrence in relation to shipping, climate-change and other environmental indices.

Through our fundraising efforts, this elite team of well-trained dogs checks vessels enroute to the island for invasive species (rats and mice) so that native bird habitats are kept healthy and properly maintained.
